Gleason to Take the Reigns at Muskingum

Several reputable sources have expressed the fact that Jake Gleason will be William Cooper's successor at Muskingum College.

Gleason spent the past two years as the assistant horizontal jumps and throws coach at Ohio Northern University.

Prior to his time at ONU Gleason coached distance and jumps at Geneva College where he helped produce 12 national qualifiers.

Gleason received his bachelor’s degree from Westminster College in 2002 and his master’s degree from Geneva College in 2004.

More information on this position as it becomes available including the Muskingum athletic page's official announcement.

*Update (7/25):

It's official. Click

If this news is true I think Gleason will do a great job there. This is a school that has always been near the bottom of the conference and Cooper didn't seem to be changing that trend at all.

If this news isn't true I think it should put an end to your coaching write ups Simpson. This site should be about facts not gossip but I gues so far its okay.

I can assure you that the news is accurate, the administration at muskingum has just been slow putting it up on the web site. He signed a contract on Wednesday so therefore was hired.

I think Gleason will do a good job, but it will be very difficult for Muskingum to be a real player on the conference level because of its lack of majors and its lack of location. I wish him the best though.

I think I should make it clear that I completely agree with the very first comment addressing the fact that this site shouldn't become some sort of gossip column. My intentions from the beginning have been to first and foremost give fans of OAC cross country and track a place where they can follow their team and the conference as well as an opportunity to promote Division III distance running all at the same time. I think there are a fair amount of people out there who are genuinely interested/excited about the state of distance running in this conference...why not treat a bunch of 15-minute 5k guys like rock stars if they're putting in just as much work as other athletes?

At the same time, you're right, I don't want this to turn into a speculative site. I would never post conference news...especially a coaching change...without digging for a little background info. That kind of thing isn't needed and I'll do my best to keep things as professional and clean as possible. Additionally I hope for the most part you can agree that there will not be any bias included in our "write-ups" as you put it. Though the three people who have created this site are indeed Heidelberg graduates, we respect all teams and won't be doing the 'Berg any favors.

When the cross country preview/prediction posts start hitting the site here in a little over a month we'll do our best to make sure each team is treated with respect. I'm not sure if you've noticed but we've been trying to represent each and every conference school with these interviews to open up the site. We've been very PC thus far in my opinion and will continue to strive to be that way.

Bottom line: I completely agree that rumours and gossip should never be a basis for a post on this site, but based on sources I trust I made a judgement call that this recent news is the real deal. If it's not I'll take a step back and be much more cautious before posting such news in the future.

Sorry about the length of that comment and thanks for the comments. Keep 'em coming!

Muskingum is a great opportunity for a young coach like Gleason and I am sure he is anxious for his first shot as a head coach. Good luck to him!

BTW, Muskingum has 57 majors and 9 more pre-professional programs. Heidelberg has 29 majors, so I am not buying the premise they can't be a "real player" because of the lack of majors (numbers for both schools came directly from their web sites).

Lucas got it done at Berg, Gleason certainly has the chance at Muskingum.

lack of support and facilities make it a little more difficult. berg had 4-5 GA's to help with recruiting plus some access to places where they can train inside. Muskingum has one head coach and one GA.

I believe any team can be sucessful as long as they put in the work, all that is need a coach who is good at recruiting. A good sucessful team will more than likely be made up of athletes who have dedication and put in 110%. Hard work pays off anywhere trust me.

You can't have a good team without good athletes.
