Preview:

The Calvin Men return five of their top seven from a team that finished first in the Great Lakes Region and fourth nationally last year. They have been in the top four at nationals the past ten consecutive seasons with national titles in 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2006. The 2008 squad will feature nine seniors on a roster that includes three with All-American awards. They look to be lead by senior Jed Christiansen who is going after a fourth All-American award that has been previously accomplished by only 13 past individuals in NCAA Division III history.

The Ohio Northern Men return six of its top seven from last year’s 17th place national qualifying team and nine of its 10 runners from last year’s OAC Championship squad. They look to be lead by reigning OAC Champion and All-American Jimmy O’Brien, who has garnered five All-American awards on the track. The addition of a solid recruiting class provides the Ohio Northern Men with valuable depth.

The Heidelberg Men only lost one out their top five from last year’s team that finished fourth in the region and 27th at Nationals and gain a solid freshmen class for the 2008 season. An addition to the team that could make an immediate impact is freshman Jamie Martin, who as a member of the high school class of 2003 finished third in the 1600m at the Ohio Division II Track State Championships with a time of 4:16.98. A healthy end of the season could reap rewards for this squad.
